Monkey Puzzle

We had enjoyed getting to know Night Monkey and Day Monkey in our last Julia Donaldson book, so were really looking forward to finding out what would happen in our next story - Monkey Puzzle!

Louis recognised the book straight away - "It's the Monkey Puzzle, I've got it at my house, it's by Julia Donaldson. I like the spider - he eats flies!"

Noah had also enjoyed the story before - "My favourite part is when the caterpillar comes and helps the monkey"

The poor little monkey had lost his mum, Butterfly tried to help but kept getting it wrong!

Once again we loved the rhyming element of the story. It was also fun predicting which animal Butterfly would mistake for 'mum' each time!

"I liked the snake cause he thought it was his mum" (Ellie F)

Thankfully there was a happy ending - "I liked it when the butterfly found the mummy and daddy" (Nate)

This was a lovely story - we would love to hear what you thought of it too - let us know!

Night Monkey Day Monkey

We have been thinking about night time a lot recently through our activities linked to Bonfire Night, so we thought this sounded a great story to read!

Night Monkey and Day Monkey's worlds are as different as . . .  night and day! What one fears, the other loves.
But in learning about each other's opposite worlds, they also learn to be the best of friends.

We all loved the rhyming element of this story, and had great fun joining in with some of the repetitive text!

Here are just a few comments from the children . . .

"He's naughty, the brown monkey" (Kaitlin)

"He thought they were rats but they were bats and yellow monkey said 'Don't be daft'!" (Charlie)

"The yellow monkey saw the frogs in the pond" (Seren)

"I liked the night one cause he's eating a banana" (Aaron)

Let us know what you thought of this lovely story!

We are loving David McKee in Willow Class!

We have enjoyed many David McKee stories in Willow class this term.
This one has been our favourite one so far...

'Two Can Toucan'

Look at it together at home and tell us if you enjoyed it too!

Room on the Broom . . .

Some of the nursery children have been getting very excited about Halloween. We thought this would be a really good story to share:

"The witch had a cat and a very tall hat,
And long ginger hair which she wore in a plait.
How the cat purred and how the witch grinned,
As they sat on their broomstick and flew through the wind"

There was lots of excitement from the children throughout the book, and they loved joining in!
Here are just a few of the comments that
some of them made . . .

"I know what happens - the broomstick snaps!" (Billy)

"She didn't look where she was going and there was a dragon!" (Eva)

"I like the monster that blows fire" (Ethan)

"He's going to roar and eat that witch!" (Lily)

We hope you enjoy this story too - we would love to hear your thoughts about it - let us know!
